Double Chin Reduction (Kybella)

arrow down

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment specifically designed to reduce fat under the chin, also known as submental fat or a “double chin.” It contains synthetic deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

Kybella provides permanent results. Kybella is injected directly into the fat beneath the chin. Over time, it works to destroy fat cells in the treated area, resulting in a more contoured jawline and reduction in the appearance of a double chin. Typically, multiple Kybella treatments are needed to achieve optimal results and each treatment may have significant swelling below the chin for four to six weeks following the treatment. It’s important for patients to be aware of this potential side effect and to follow their provider’s post-treatment care instructions to help minimize swelling and discomfort.  Kybella is not recommended for everyone and may not be suitable for you. Please discuss with your provider if Kybella is the right option for you.

The number of treatments required varies depending on factors such as the amount of submental fat present and individual response to the injections. Most patients undergo a series of treatments spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. Overall, Kybella offers a non-surgical solution for reducing submental fat and improving the appearance of the chin and jawline. With multiple treatments and appropriate post-treatment care, many patients can achieve satisfying results with Kybella injections.
